Increase comes despite overall decline in job postings

HR, recruitment job ads up in New Zealand

Job ads for human resources and recruitment roles in New Zealand went up in June despite an overall drop in job postings across the country, according to SEEK.

Its latest Employment Report revealed a four per cent monthly increase in HR and recruitment roles for the month of June.

It is one of the few industries that reported an increase in job ads despite a three per cent monthly decline and three per cent yearly decrease in postings, according to SEEK.

Rob Clark, SEEK NZ Country Manager, said job ad levels remained broadly flat for the past 12 months.

"While the volume remains below pre-COVID levels, there are pockets of growth, which should be cause for some optimism," Clark said in a statement.

Other industries that posted a monthly increase include Real Estate and Property (8%), Information and Communication Technology (6%), as well as Call Centre and Customer Service (4%).

Industries that logged major declines include Consulting and Strategy (-16%), Farming, Animals, and Conservation (-11%), Mining, Resources, and Energy (-8%), as well as Education and Training (-8%).

By region, Northland recorded the biggest monthly drop in job ads with a decline of 13%, while Gisborne and Marlborough recorded a 16% increase each.

"Regional activity is mixed, with Gisborne, Marlborough and Southland recording month-on-month growth in June, and year-on-year we're seeing positive momentum in eight regions including Wellington, Otago and Canterbury," Clark said.

Candidate activity down

Meanwhile, applications per job ad, which is recorded with a one-month lag, declined by two per cent month-on-month.

Candidate activity, however, continued to increase month-on-month in the following regions:

  • Otago (6%)
  • Hawkes Bay (4%)
  • Manawatu (3%)
