New report reveals applications are 'extremely elevated' in job ads
Job openings for human resources and recruitment positions went up in New Zealand amid stabilising hiring activity in the country, according to the latest report from SEEK NZ.
Its Employment Report for the month of October showed HR and recruitment job openings seeing a one per cent monthly growth.
This is in line with the one per cent monthly job ads increase across the country, the report found. Job ads were also up three per cent quarter-on-quarter, and 7% year-on-year.
Rob Clark, SEEK NZ country manager, said the findings indicate continued incremental activity returning to the country's job market.
"While we're mindful that many Kiwis are still facing real challenges in finding work, this data does indicate that hiring activity has stabilised after many months of decline," Clark said.
"One encouraging sign is that this growth isn't concentrated in just one or two areas - we're seeing modest gains across most industries and in most regions around the country."
The Sport and Recreation industry logged the biggest monthly job ads growth with four per cent. It is followed by 3% increases in the hospitality, construction, education, and legal industries.
'Elevated' applications per job ad
Meanwhile, applications per job ad were also up to record levels at two per cent in September, according to SEEK NZ.
All regions logged an increase in applications per job ad except Bay of Plenty (-1%). The largest monthly increases were recorded in Gisborne and Marlborough, which are both up 5%.
But jobseekers are not limiting themselves within New Zealand, SEEK NZ noted, as applications to Australian job ads were also up.
"There are plenty of candidates in the market, with applications to both New Zealand and Australian jobs by local workers extremely elevated compared to pre-COVID levels," Clark said.
