New form to make processing clearer, reduce delays for employers

Immigration NZ to roll out improved job check form

Immigration New Zealand (INZ) is introducing a redesigned online job check form to make the process clearer and reduce delays for employers.

The change will be introduced on September 29, as part of the agency's improvements to the job check stage of the Accredited Employer Work Visa (AEWV) scheme.

"Employers may notice that the updated job check form asks for some new information upfront," the agency said on its website.

Among the information that will be asked upfront include:

  • Why the role is needed
  • The size of the business
  • How many New Zealanders are currently employed (for large organisations this can be approximated)

"Providing this information upfront helps ensure faster and more efficient processing," the agency said.

"It also gives our processing staff a clearer understanding of the business context and the rationale for the role, supporting more efficient and informed assessments."

Job check stage

The job check is a key stage in the AEWV scheme designed to ensure that positions employers wish to fill with migrant workers cannot be filled by suitable New Zealanders.

It is also INZ's way to assess whether a job is genuine, pays at least the market rate, and offers suitable terms and conditions.

According to the agency, the key improvements to this stage are:

  • Clearer guidance throughout the form to help users understand what they need to include in the application
  • Built-in checks to ensure all necessary information is included in the submission
  • Streamlined actions that align with updated immigration requirements

"The redesign is based on feedback from immigration staff, advisers, employers, and other regular users of the system. Their input helped shape a more practical and user-friendly experience," INZ said.

The changes come after the government carried out measures to improve the AEWV scheme after a scathing report last year revealed that its rushed implementation in 2022 led to exploitation of migrant workers.
