Government launches survey seeking insights from organisations with tech employees

Feedback wanted: What are your digital skills and training needs?

Tech firms, businesses and employers are being asked to provide feedback about the skills and training needs for New Zealand’s digital tech sector.

Toi Mai Workforce Development Council, the Ministry of Business and Innovation, Ministry of Social Development, Ministry of Education, and NZTech are conducting a survey to identify the digital skills needed by organisations that employ digital technology workers.

“The digital technology sector in Aotearoa is one of the fastest growing segments of our economy and has been a critical source of domestic economic growth. Given the pace of change internationally and the competition globally for those with technology skills, growing and upskilling the technology workforce is an urgent priority,” said NZTech.

Even among seasoned tech workers and those beginning to make career shifts into the IT industry, certain barriers such as poor recruitment practices are keeping tech talent from applying for their dream job.

The questions cover hiring activity, recruitment challenges, which roles require digital skills, which software skills and languages are needed, the importance of skills such as creativity, collaboration and problem-solving, and where digital skills groups are needed, the use of interns, entry level requirements, barriers to recruitment, capability and skills frameworks, and demographics.

The survey can be taken here.
