NZ Post reveals new LGBTQ+ stamp

New Zealand Post has reaffirmed their commitment to diversity by commissioning a new Rainbow Pride stamp.

Celebrating the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Takatāpui, Transgender, Intersex (LGBTTQIA+) community, the stamp will be available this week at nzpost.co.nz/pride.

“This special edition stamp has been really meaningful to work on,” added Lynette Townsend, NZ Post stamps and collectables programme and content manager. “Our stamp programme aims to be inclusive and reflective of our history and the many groups and cultures in New Zealand society. We are so proud to be supporting the 2021 Pride events and LGBTTQIA+ communities in New Zealand. The key aim of the project is to help raise awareness but we will also be making a donation to RainbowYOUTH, as an expression of our support beyond the events planned for 2021.”

NZ has long been a pioneering in the world of D&I, with PM Jacinda Arden’s new cabinet lauded as the most diverse in the nation’s history.

Speaking to HRD last year, Diversity Works New Zealand chief executive Maretha Smit labelled the shakeup as a “cause for celebration”.

“Ensuring all groups and sectors of society have representation in Government is essential to establishing equality in Aotearoa,” she told us. “Not only that, Parliament is a workplace like any other, and it’s gratifying to see our country’s leaders sending a signal to all organisations that there are immense benefits to having diverse teams.”
