IKEA expands recruitment plans to 500 employees

IKEA New Zealand has expanded its recruitment drive to more than 500 employees ahead of the opening of its Sylvia Park store later this year.

The furniture retailer announced the increase up from an original plan to hire 400 employees after the company's recent decision to establish a Remote Customer Meeting Point team in New Zealand, which adds 67 new employees, according to Lauren Clegg, People & Culture Manager, IKEA New Zealand.

"This team, who will provide support to customers ordering anywhere across New Zealand via phone or online, was not part of our original hiring projections and reflects our evolving commitment to delivering an outstanding omni-channel customer experience for every New Zealander," Clegg told the New Zealand Herald.

More roles are available across different departments, including fulfilment, sales, food, customer relations, as well as the product quality and recovery department.

Most of the roles will be open for applications starting in early July, according to IKEA. So far, 66 employees have been onboarded, with more expected to arrive every two weeks until November 2.

"We're excited to welcome self-starting, values-driven New Zealanders who are passionate about creating a better everyday life at home," Clegg said in a statement.

Benefits at IKEA NZ

Among the benefits IKEA offers are five weeks of paid annual leave, plus parental, family, and community leave, as well as low-cost meals provided in the company's co-worker restaurant.

Employees also have access to 24/7 health and wellbeing assistance, and may also benefit from the organisation's bonus program.

According to the furniture retailer, employees also get a 15% discount on IKEA products, as well as a range of other exclusive discounts and cashback offers on everyday expenses, retail, entertainment, and wellness.

Additional contributions to their superannuation funds, where eligible, may be made through the co-worker loyalty programme.

"We're not just offering jobs, we're offering the opportunity to build a meaningful career in a purpose-led, global business," Clegg said.
