HR professionals are expecting the new year to deliver pay rises, reveals a new survey.

Kiwi professionals are expecting to see their wallets fatten in the new year according to a new survey which shows many are anticipating salary increase and bonuses. And those in HR are just as expectant as other professions.

The Robert Walters Pay & Bonus Survey covered a range of professions including accounting, banking, financial services, human resources, information technology, procurement, marketing, sales and business support.

Overall most professions in New Zealand had a positive outlook for their 2015 income with 65% anticipating an increase in salary and 46% expect to receive a bonus.

Those figures are higher than the number of professionals who reported receiving a pay rise (62%) or bonus (34%) in 2014, and that expectations for an increase are higher in Auckland than in Wellington.

In HR the number anticipating an increase is higher than the average with 76% expecting more bay and 30% anticipate a bonus in 2015.

According to the results last year 66% of HR professionals received a pay rise and 27% took home a bonus.

While those in HR expect a pay rise next year their expectations are modest with the majority nominating an amount of 1% to 3% of their base salary.

The survey also showed that HR had the lowest percentage for those looking to change jobs in the next three months. According to the results only 16% are looking to do so. Thirty-two percent reported that they are completely satisfied and are not looking to change roles in the next two years.

Robert Walters Auckland HR Manager, Christian Brown, said: “Most professionals rate career progression opportunities as their most important consideration when changing roles. Compared to the average across all professions, however, more HR professionals have nominated improved work/life balance as a key driver for moving roles. Employers that offer flexible working solutions as well as opportunities for career advancement will therefore be very appealing to the best HR candidates.”

Nationally the average for professionals looking to change jobs in the next three months is 24%, while 69% said they will be looking to at some point in the next two years.

Robert Walters Wellington Director Sean Brunner adds: “The best candidates are looking for work that will challenge and inspire, and help them to develop their careers. As the results show, career progression has been rated as the primary reason professionals would consider changing roles. Salary is still an important consideration, followed by improved work/life balance and job security.”
