Healthcare costs are still rising faster than inflation, even as growth eases. Aon's 2027 Global Medical Trend Rates Report projects that the global medical trend rate, the expected annual increase in medical plan costs, will land at 9.0% in 2027. In Asia-Pacific, it is forecast to fall from 11.3% to 9.7%. For HR leaders in Australia, that's welcome news, but ageing populations, chronic disease and demand for advanced treatments continue to push costs higher.
Drawing on insights from more than 100 Aon locations, the report helps HR and benefits leaders plan medical plan and premium renewal budgets with confidence. It also shows how leading employers are balancing affordability with employee wellbeing. "While medical trend is easing, it remains more than triple the rate of inflation," said Michael Pedel, head of global benefits at Aon.
