With a primary target audience of British HR professionals, it offers a number of free services such as job openings, buyers’ guides and HR-related events. However, anything of real value for the Australian HR professional needs registration, which requires browsers to part with an e-mail address. This is painless enough, as long as e-mail marketing options are turned off.
The three areas with the most useful content are HR news, features and outsourcing. HR news is updated with a half dozen HR-related stories each day, while features cover general HR practice areas, financial HR, future industry focus areas, workplace issues and HR how-to’s. Feature articles, for example, look at topics such as managing change, diversity risks, human capital management and the practice of mobile working.
HR outsourcing includes a considerable number of case study-based features examining outsourcing across areas such as administration and payroll, recruitment and expat administration.
A search engine in the features section is especially useful with the impressive range of HR topics on offer, while browsing the rest of the site is simple enough. Design suffers a little from clutter and animated gifs, but HR Gateway’s content more than makes up for this shortfall.
