New workforce strategy aims to boost defence, clean energy industries, among others
The Western Australian government is coming up with a new Workforce Strategy to support the growth of key industries, and is inviting industry leaders across the state to contribute to its development.
The WA Workforce Strategy aims to identify what the state's workforce needs to ensure it can support industries that it believes are the "key to its future."
These industries include defence, clean energy, construction, advanced manufacturing, tourism and hospitality, and care sectors.
"Developing a comprehensive workforce strategy is critical to delivering on our government's priorities of jobs, health, and housing," said Skills and TAFE Minister Amber-Jade Sanderson in a statement.
"The strategy will help deliver good, well-paying jobs for Western Australians and support new and expanding industries."
Industry leaders invited
As part of the strategy's development, the WA government will be hosting six roundtables for industry leaders where they can contribute insights to shape the strategy.
Each roundtable will focus on a specific priority industry, according to the WA government.
These leaders are expected to provide input on the challenges and opportunities their industries face, as well as what measures can be carried out to strengthen the workforce.
Stakeholders are also invited to contribute to the Workforce Strategy through an online consultation process, while which will run parallel to the roundtables.
"The strategy will support the government's priority of ensuring WA becomes a renewable energy powerhouse which makes more things here so that the State remains the best place in the world to get a quality job," the government said in its media release.
Western Australia been taking steps to boost its clean energy workforce. It recently partnered with the Federal government for a $1.4 million investment in clean energy training innovation.
