There are 34,000 more unemployed people in September, data reveal
Australia's unemployment rose to 4.5% in September, hitting its highest level since November 2021.
The latest data from the Australian Bureau of Statistics has revealed that there are 34,000 more unemployed people in September, including 24,000 unemployed males and 10,000 females.
"This is the highest seasonally adjusted unemployment rate recorded since November 2021," said Sean Crick, ABS head of labour statistics, in a statement.

The 4.5% unemployment rate in September represents an increase from the seasonally adjusted rate of 4.3% recorded between June and August, according to ABS data.
However, this remains below the 4.6% recorded in November 2021.
Employment also up
Meanwhile, the number of employed people also expanded by 15,000 in September.
According to the ABS, full-time employment rose by 9,000, while part-time employment increased by 6,000.
Crick said the increase in unemployed and employed Australians has raised the participation rate by 0.1 percentage points to 67%.
"Although this is below the record high of 67.2% we saw at the beginning of the year," he said.
Australia's employment-to-population ratio also remained steady at 64%, while hours worked went up by 0.5% in September.
Underemployment went up by 0.2 percentage points to 5.9%, while the underutilisation rate rose by 0.4 percentage points to 10.4%.
