ICT recruitment hots up

The first half of 2005 has seen the hottest levels of recruitment demand in four years in the Australian information technology and communications (ITC) sector, according to the Ambition Technology Market Trends and Salaries Report, released in June 2005. In spite of a steady rather than spectacular economy, and increased concerns about rising interest rates, companies have still recruited in the ITC sector, and invested in IT projects. “Candidates with premium skills have been receiving premium salary increases and big sign-on bonuses,” said Jane Bianchini, director of Ambition Technology. “We expect IT budgets to keep growing in the second half of 2005 and drive demand further.”

SMS jobsite launched

A job board which allows advertisers to send job ads directly to jobseekers by SMS has been launched in Australia. Jobcentral is the only job website in the country to allow jobs to be sent directly to jobseekers in this way, according to Richard Stone, Jobcentral’s managing director. Jobseekers then log onto jobcentral.com.au, type in the job code from their SMS message, and are directed to the relevant job ad. Jobcentral also allows jobseekers to download software that acts like an email message notification or a news feed – so that jobseekers are notified as soon as a job of interest gets posted to jobcentral.com.au. Advertisers can post all of their jobs for free until 7 September 2005.
