The IT employment market is tightening as companies continue to recruit and employers are now having to recruit IT professionals for attributes rather than just skills and focus on improved retention strategies. A CCS Technology Recruiters survey of around 300 senior IT professionals found that 90 per cent are planning to maintain or increase IT staff numbers in the coming year, despite a shortage of suitable IT professionals, especially in less senior roles in application development and infrastructure support. Retention was an increasing issue for IT professionals, with almost 70 per cent of organisations providing flexible working hours.

Careerone.com.au relaunches

Careerone.com.au recently relaunched with a number of new features, including the ability to post jobs in any Australian suburb, attract jobseekers through ad enhancements/features and target passive jobseekers. “The real stand-out is that jobs will now be listed in order of relevance, rather than date in candidates’ job search results,” said careerone.com.au product and business manager, Colleen Aubrey. The technology behind careerone.com.au’s new features is provided by US-based job board technology provider CareerCast, while the new design, architecture and interface was done by Australian firm NetReturn.

Virgin Blue finalises Oracle rollout

Virgin Blue recently rolled out several components of Oracle’s E-Business Suite in order to support the airline’s HR, payroll and other functions. Running on Oracle Real Application Clusters on Linux, the deployment will allow Virgin Blue to integrate its payroll and finance functions, facilitate employee self-service and provide a single point of delivery for applications. Oracle Consulting implemented the solution, which also allows Virgin Blue to track all staff through a unique user ID system and account for anyone that has to interact with the company. Virgin Blue and its sister carrier, Pacific Blue, have 49 aircraft and more than 3,700 employees.
