Smiggle's managing director axed for 'serious misconduct': reports

The managing director of Australian retail firm Smiggle has been terminated due to serious misconduct, according to reports.

Just Group, Smiggle's parent company, announced on Monday that it fired John Cheston after he had "engaged in serious misconduct and a serious breach of his employment terms."

"On that basis, his employment has been terminated today," Just Group said as quoted by Bloomberg.

The parent company did not disclose the nature of the misconduct in the case, according to reports.

But Cheston's representative, law firm Giles George, said the allegations of misconduct are "categorically denied" by the former managing director.

Cheston's termination comes in the middle of his 12-month notice to the company after filing his resignation on June 3, Bloomberg reported.

He is expected to be the next CEO of Australian jewellery retailer Lovisa Holdings Ltd, which has yet to issue a statement following Cheston's sacking.

Smiggle is an Australian-based chain of retail stores that sells stationery and other related items. It is under Just Group, which also operates Just Jeans, Jay Jays, Portmans, Dotti, among others.
