Police officer charged after unauthorised access of police database

A police officer in New South Wales is facing multiple charges after accessing sensitive police data without authorisation.

The officer, 29, allegedly accessed private information from the police computer system between May 2021 and April 2024.

The charges follow an investigation by NSW Police's Professional Standard Command, which established Strike Force Casing for the probe.

The officer was arrested on January 10 at a Claremont Meadows home and taken to Penrith Police Station, according to NSW Police.

Investigators also seized electronic devices, mobile phones, and documents at a home in Chester Hill for forensic examination.

The officer faces charges including the holder of public office misconduct and ten counts of unauthorised access to restricted data held in computer.

He has been refused bail and was set to appear in Penrith Local Court last Friday.

NSW Police said the officer has been suspended from duty amid the investigation.
