HC Journo dares to go bare

Stephanie ZillmanOn the 15th of March I will be shaving my hair off as part of the Leukaemia Foundation's annual major fundraiser, the World's Greatest Shave.

As much as I would personally love to give a couple of thousand dollars to the foundation, I can't. Instead, I've got 54cm of hair I’m willing to sacrifice.

There are countless worthy causes out there, all deserving of our generosity. But, here are some reasons the Leukaemia Foundation stands out as a top charity:

Every day, 31 Australians will be diagnosed with a blood cancer. Leukaemia, lymphoma and myeloma can develop in anyone, of any age, at any time. There is often little or no warning that a person is sick, and in acute cases, some require treatment within 24 hours of diagnosis.

Combined with costly medical bills and loss of income, many families and individuals find themselves in financially crippling circumstances whilst coping with the shock and emotional turmoil associated with the diagnosis.

The Leukaemia Foundation is the only national not-for-profit organisation dedicated to the care and cure of patients and their families. By providing counselling and support, access to 'home away from home' accommodation, transport to and from treatment centres, right through funding groundbreaking research, the Leukaemia Foundation is instrumental to the survival of sufferers.
