Employers more flexible when recruiting for HR roles

Employers recruiting for HR roles have become more flexible with the skill set required from candidates to ensure the right cultural fit as the talent market begins to tighten, according to recruitment firm Hays.

The latest Quarterly Report from Hays found that internal recruiters with strong legislative knowledge around health promotion and safety are the most in demand candidates at the moment.

Solid and hands-on operational HR generalists are also sought, in particular those with IR and ER exposure.

Recruitment activity at the senior level is gaining momentum once more following GFC redundancies, although demand is centred upon senior HR advisors rather than managers. Organisations are also recruiting for start-up HR roles.

Hays said that remuneration and benefits professionals are currently needed in response to looming year-end and bonus time, as well as the need to stay competitive and to ensure that retention rates stay steady.

Furthermore, while positivity is returning to the market, many employers maintain their preference for contract over permanent recruitment. They are however refilling positions that were previously made redundant.

Within the public sector there has been some movement at the $100k to $150k level as those candidates that supported a business through the difficult times now seek a new role that does not also involve performing the functions of multiple other people.

Public sector candidates are also needed for temporary assignments. In particular, recruitment specialists are needed as organisations rebuild teams following the GFC. Workforce Planners are sought for similar reasons.
