Software giant's hiring plans on hold amid AI transformation
Atlassian has reportedly imposed a hiring freeze on some roles as it grapples with challenges arising from its adoption of artificial intelligence (AI).
The software giant has reportedly paused hiring for engineers and other related roles, and allegedly rescinded some verbal offers to job candidates, the Australian Financial Review reported.
On social media, users from Reddit and Blind shared their experiences with the hiring freeze.
One Blind user said their role was "cancelled due to the freeze," while another reported that their job interview was cancelled and that the role they were applying for was "no longer available."
Another user, however, described the move as a "partial freeze," saying Atlassian is still hiring in sales and that "very selective hiring" is continuing for other roles.
On Atlassian's careers page, positions for engineering jobs had fallen to fewer than 10 roles.
Atlassian is a software company that develops products for software development, project management and team collaboration. It serves customers in more than 200 countries and employs over 12,000 people.
The reported pause in recruitment comes as the company posted a net loss of US$42.6 million for the quarter ended December 31, despite continued demand for cloud-based collaboration platforms.
The downturn comes amid the growing adoption of AI tools in workplaces, which has led some organisations to cut back on human roles that typically rely on Atlassian's products.
At the same time, AI has lowered the barrier to entry for smaller software vendors, increasing competitive pressure in the collaboration and project management market.
According to the AFR report, Atlassian has not confirmed whether it has formally implemented a hiring freeze, but it has denied rescinding verbal job offers to candidates.
Last year, Atlassian implemented lay-offs that affected its customer service and support teams.
