I read your editorial note, ‘HR – poor cousin to operations.’ (Human Resources, 4 October 2005). And so say all of us whether male or female.

I am so over all the palaver associated with ‘strategic HR’, ‘seats on the Board’, etc. Talk about an identity crisis! One thing that the editorial note didn’t mention is the ‘janitorial’ nature of HR – cleaning up the mess created by the operational kings.

Walking a mile in the HR shoes

I wholeheartedly agree with the comments made in the editorial note, ’HR – poor cousin to operations’, and being a female HR manager continue to feel frustrated by the view that HR is the softer function. Perhaps it is about time that those in the operations and finance functions try out the HR function and then they might see just how ‘warm and fuzzy’ it is on this side of the fence!
