New report names 10 roles most vulnerable to AI's rise
The rapid rise of generative AI across the world has prompted widespread job security concerns.
In fact, a report from Goldman Sachs said AI could expose 300 million full-time jobs, while the International Monetary Fund said it could expose almost 40% of global employment.
But what industries will likely see the biggest job shifts as a result of AI? Business Insider recently spoke with various experts and listed 10 jobs that AI will most likely replace in the future. They include:
- Tech jobs (Coders, computer programmers, software engineers, data analysts)
- Media jobs (advertising, content creation, technical writing, journalism)
- Legal industry jobs (paralegals, legal assistants)
- Market research analysts
- Teachers
- Finance jobs (Financial analysts, personal financial advisors)
- Traders
- Graphic Designers
- Accountants
- Customer service agents
How can AI take them away?
According to Business Insider's report, AI tools will likely fill in-demand vacancies in the tech industry in the future, citing the tool’s ability to crunch numbers with relative accuracy.
AI is also capable of producing codes faster than humans, according to the report, which could mean fewer employees are needed.
Some AI tools are also capable of content creation, which puts media roles and graphic designers at risk of being replaced. The tech’s ability to analyse data and predict outcomes can also expose roles such as accountants, traders, market research analysts, as well as other finance and legal jobs.
Teachers, who are also concerned about students using AI tools to cheat, are vulnerable to the rise of the technology, which can actually teach classes, according to the report.
Customer service agents are also at risk of being replaced amid the rise of AI-powered chatbots. In fact, an Indian commerce firm already did this, replacing 90% of its support staff with AI for faster and cheaper outcomes.
The findings come amid recent strong sentiments from managers and other executives to replace employees with AI as it develops further.
AI to evolve jobs
But some experts interviewed in Business Insider's report noted that some jobs cannot be entirely automated and may still need human control in the future.
Richard George, Pearson Workforce Solutions Vice President AI and Data Science, previously told HRD that generative AI will help jobs evolve, but not take them away from employees.
"If you're an accountant, and a lot of the types of tasks you do can be automated by generative AI, that means that jobs are evolving, so that the tasks that can be automated will disappear," George told HRD.
"But as an accountant, there's still a lot of work you need to do, it's just you spend more time on those things that you're better equipped as a human to be able to complete."
