Why more organisations are extending leadership training beyond the management ranks

Developing leadership qualities in all employees is delivering major benefits to organisations, according to a new report.

A new report from the Association for Talent Development (ATD), sponsored by SIY Global, demonstrated the importance of leadership development at all levels, including individual contributors.

Nearly 79% of firms experience improved organisational culture when providing leadership development to all employees.

Another 68% of learners also experienced improved job performance because of leadership development.

"Organisations experience a continuation of organisational culture and a strengthened leadership pipeline when they offer leadership development at all levels," the report read.

Expanding leadership development programmes

Leadership development programmes are structured initiatives that are commonly aimed at employees identified as future leaders.

About 66% of organisations mandate these programmes for people managers, according to ATD's research. They have also been provided to executives, directors, and managers for a while.

But ATD's recent findings revealed that more employers are beginning to offer leadership development to all individual contributors in the workplace.

This shift comes amid rapid changes and increasing complexity in workplaces, according to the report.

"Modern workplaces benefit when everyone is equipped to think critically, collaborate, and respond confidently to challenges in their roles," the report read.

"This approach not only strengthens individual performance but also creates a more agile and resilient organisation that's prepared to navigate the challenges of the future."
