HR told to 'step forward and show how their insights can shape strategy'

HR 'sidelined' in AI workforce transformation

HR leaders have been advised to "step forward" as new research revealed that they are getting sidelined in the ongoing AI-driven transformation of workplaces.

Findings from Beamery's latest research revealed that just 12% of C-suite leaders consider Chief Human Resources Officers (CHROs) as influential in making key decisions around AI and workforce transformation.

It also found that just 30% of HR leaders believe they have been tapped from the outset of their organisation's AI strategy, despite 60% of C-suite leaders claiming that this is the case.

Nearly half of HR leaders (48%) said they are only brought in during implementation planning, rather than at the outset.

"AI-driven workforce transformation isn't just about technology - it's about people. Yet HR is often sidelined when it comes to shaping these changes," the report stated.

The crucial role of HR

Has Dosanjh, CEO of Beamery, warned that bringing in CHROs and HR leaders after making key AI decisions risks undermining the ROI of these initiatives.

"True AI-driven workforce transformation is an exciting opportunity – it's as much about empowering people as it is about deploying new technology," Dosanjh said in a statement.

"When HR leaders are involved early, they help ensure AI enhances the skills, culture, and potential that make organisations thrive."

According to the report, HR leaders can help prioritise tasks that can be automated without harming employee engagement or customer outcomes. They can also help:

  • Shift employees toward higher-value tasks that best develop skills, experience, and career growth
  • Align workforce planning, reskilling, and role design with business goals

"This is a moment for HR to step forward and show how their insights can shape strategy and unlock lasting business value," Dosanjh said.
