'Working remotely should be the exception rather than routine'
Dell Technologies is expecting some members of its global sales team to start reporting to the office five days a week by the end of September, according to reports.
In a new memo reported by Reuters and Bloomberg, employees are told that those who can come to the office five days a week should do so starting next week.
"The expectation is that ALL Global Sales team members who can work from a Dell office be onsite five days a week, regardless of role," the memo read as quoted by Bloomberg.
"We know situations will arise when you need to work remotely. This is expected, but working remotely should be the exception rather than routine."
Mandate for remote workers
According to the memo, employees who can't report to the office should "prioritise time spent in person with customers."
Employees under remote work who can't go to the office, on the other hand, are told to continue working remotely and wait for information in the coming weeks.
Dell attributed its decision to company data showing that "sales teams are more productive when onsite."
It added that it wants to take advantage of the collaborative environment and "grow skills," Reuters reported.
Prior to the memo, Dell had been asking its employees to report to the office three days a week.
The order adds Dell to the growing number of employers worldwide that are asking employees to fully return to workplaces after years of remote and hybrid work.
Amazon was one of the major firms that recently issued a similar mandate, ordering employees to come back starting January 2025.
"When we look back over the last five years, we continue to believe that the advantages of being together in the office are significant," Amazon CEO Andy Jassy previously said.
