Sophisticated employers need to start thinking “more laterally” regarding staff working hours, in order to get the most out of their workforce.

It's great to encourage employees to pursue physical activities and a day off a month for that purpose would bring many benefits for the organisation from healthier staff to greater motivation. The expected free fall just doesn't happen, employees who value flexibility usually give more than they take.

I agree with Mary's comment. Sometimes we have to encourage managers to put away their reflexive 'No' to requests for staff for leave for a particular purpose and start thinking about why not 'Yes'.
