Leading business women and academics plan to advise the upcoming Tax Summit that childcare is the biggest and most directly related cost to earning income and should be eligible for a tax rebate.

As a single parent, childcare fees bite hard. There is a huge differential between salary earned and the cost of care. For me, there is a huge gap of some $40k pa, whereby its actually NOT beneficial for me to work more and earn more, as I'm actually worse off with declining FTB and child care rebates. Childcare is a 12-13 year cost, as Before and After school care and Vacation Care is essential, if you want to pursue a career and be available to work the hours required. My career has been stagnant and my real income spiralling backward at an alraming rate, since I've been a sole parent, with 100% financial responsibility for 2 children.
