A recent study has claimed that office jerks may be walking away with bigger pay packets than their quiet, agreeable colleagues.

Being assertive and standing up to a bully may also get you the sack - particularly if it is your boss or a person of greater seniority. It could also result in a grievance being lodged against you if the bully doesn't take kindly to your direct approach or has such a huge ego - they just can't stand being called on their bheaviour. I don't believe you should confront a bully as the advice seems to suggest as the personal cost may be more than is worth it. There will always be people in the workplace with ego and bullying behaviour. I don't suggest ignoring them or suffering at their hands but, confronting them may open a whole new can of worms.
If anyone has any other ideas about what to do to handle egoists and bullies, I'd appreciate the advice.
