Many people are familiar with the concept of IQ and EQ (emotional intelligence quotient), but SQ, or spiritual intelligence quotient, is a measure that is less well known. Richard Bowell seeks to address this in The Seven Steps of Spiritual Intelligence: The Practical Pursuit of Purpose, Success and Happiness. Emotional intelligence was more or less made famous through Daniel Goldstein’s Emotional Intelligence, which has become the bible for many studying the burgeoning area of EQ. Bowell’s work may well do the same in time.

Bowell explains that spiritual intelligence seeks to discover the why of what we do, rather than what we do or how we do it. In his book, he explores the seven steps to spiritual intelligence: awareness, meaning, evaluation, being centred, vision, projection and mission.

The first three chapters are designed to help readers become centred in their real selves, while the following chapters aim to assist in understanding personal circumstances and missions.

If you’re familiar with emotional intelligence and want to take a further step into the realm of the spiritual, read this book.
