HOT INNOVATION AREA: PERFORMANCE MANAGEMENT

In 2015, the Vocus Group HR team threw out formal performance reviews and instead adopted a performance motivation approach, giving staff and managers the opportunity to focus on their own motivation points. The process had a Choose Your Own Adventure spin and a strength-based approach; team members were given access to a custom-built portal filled with tools that they could use to form a plan that best fitted their needs. Vocus moved away from the usual KPIs, the HR team and management now emphasise having more regular and meaningful conversations in order to help employees focus on developing their strengths. To date, the team has received outstanding feedback. In terms of engagement measures, Vocus has received higher scores for the key categories identified by Great Place to Work; in particular, its rating for manager feedback and communication has gone up from 6.7 to 8.9 over the past 12 months.
