A safety campaign in early March by WorkSafe Victoria resulted in 105 improvement notices being issued to businesses in Melbourne suburb Heidelberg.

WorkSafe said it also issued two Prohibition Notices, one related to insufficient guarding on power presses which posed a risk of hand injury, and another related to forklift safety after inspectors found the vehicles lacking seat belts or reverse lights.Other concerns included failure to register dangerous goods and inadequate railing on mezzanine floors.

Despite the high number of notices issued, WorkSafe’s acting executive director Stan Krpan said businesses were “really receptive” to its visits.
