Leaders who can manage horizontally and across functions are typical of the world’s most admired companies.

Companies which ranked highest amongst their peers as being “most admired” had lead ers better able to work across their organi sation in a “cross-functional and horizontal way,” a recent study reveals.

According to the trends which emerged from the recently published annual lists of the World’s Most Admired Companies by the Hay Group, leaders dealing with the downturn need to be more dynamic and keep their dif ferent divisions operating within an overall aligned strategy.

The survey results found that 83 per cent of the most admired companies felt that they were better able to manage the matrix or ganisation effectively, compared with only 58 per cent of their peer group.
