HR recruitment on the rise

Human Resources was the fastest growing job sector in March indicating employers are strengthening their HR teams as the jobs market picks up.

The Advantage Job Index, formerly known as the Olivier Job Index, revealed that the number of HR jobs advertised online rose by 12.23 per cent.

There was an overall rise in jobs posted online of 4.57 per cent, more than double that of February's growth of 1.59 per cent.

Advantage Professional director Robert Olivier said: "This is the biggest rise in online job ads since January 2008. It is quite a remarkable turnaround considering where we were less than a year ago."

Peter Wilson, national president of The Australian Human Resources Institute, said that the survey results were a consequence of increased internal restructurings, with associated implications for people training, as well as offshore expansions and the needs to redeploy and recruit people to new roles.

Wilson also said there were far more business recruitment and induction activities as order books begin to fill and confidence improves in the country’s economic future.

“Having been substantially protected from the severe implications of the global financial crisis, medium and large Australian companies are rebounding quickly.

“HR recruitment has picked up to reflect the demands on the profession to provide services for mergers and acquisitions activity, with people and cultural integrations taking considerable time,” said Wilson.
