Human Resources was the biggest loser in online job advertisements in July, putting to an end the past year of growth for the profession.

HR job adverts were down more than 10 per cent, last month as the Advantage Job Index recorded a national drop of 1.3 per cent.

But this figure comes after a strong performance over the past 12 months for HR.

With an annual increase in online job adverts of 64 per cent from July 2009, only administration, clerical and office support performed better with an 86 per cent increase in job advertisements over the same period.

Robert Olivier, director, global market intelligence, Advantage Resourcing said: “It’s possible that having completed their review of their HR practices to ensure compliance with the Fair Work Act, companies have immediately eased up on their use of human resource contractors.

“In addition, a notable decrease in advertisements for recruitment specialists suggests that companies may be slowing down the expansion of their teams until after the election and a more certain economic path is apparent.”
