HR Awards: Calling all diversity dynamos

Is your organisation leading the pack when it comes to workplace diversity and inclusion? Nominate it for the 2014 Australian HR Awards.

Diversity and inclusion is now firmly on the management agenda in most Australian businesses, but a recent survey by Hays shows that more than half of Australian employees still feel that their workplaces aren’t inclusive enough.

According to the survey, 48% of employees are not satisfied with the career path available to women in their organisation, 43% said their company doesn’t value mature-age workers and 49% said that candidates from ethnic minorities face discrimination when it comes to accessing or gaining employment.

Does your organisation buck those trends with a top-notch diversity and inclusion strategy? Is it leading the way in creating a truly diverse workplace?

Nominations are open for the 2014 Australian HR Awards and nominees are sought for the Best Workplace Diversity and Inclusion Strategy category.

Suncorp Group took out the award last year and Matt Dowie, executive manager of diversity and inclusion, said winning the award was a defining moment in the company’s diversity and inclusion journey.

“The award reflects the efforts of a dedicated and passionate HR team that has mobilised our organisation to think differently about diversity and to leverage a flexible workforce to deliver impressive business results.”

He said the win had helped to raise the profile of the company’s diversity and inclusion program internally, with employees and leaders wanting to know more about it and offering their help.

“It’s also been great from an external perspective, helping to position Suncorp as the place to work in Australia and New Zealand.”
