Australia’s best employers revealed

A truck insurance company has taken out the top spot at the Aon Hewitt Best Employers event. Check out which other companies made the grade.

When it comes to employee engagement statistics, National Transport Insurance (NTI) is leading the way, according to the Aon Hewitt Best Employer Survey.

The truck insurance specialist was named the best of the best at the Aon Hewitt Best Employers event, which honoured the businesses that earned the title of Best Employers for 2014.

Of the 120 companies in Australia and New Zealand that took part in Aon Hewitt’s annual trans-Tasman Best Employer Survey, only 16 earned accreditation, meaning they have the highest levels of employee engagement.

NTI CEO Tony Clark said the company’s employee engagement had reached its highest level during the past year.

“The efforts our people have put in to ensure people have career paths and remain engaged is extraordinary. The relationship between employee engagement, customer satisfaction and results is profound at NTI and we are thrilled to be awarded the best of the best accolade.”

Aon Hewitt partner and employee engagement lead Stephen Hickey said that despite NTI’s relatively small size, it was able to engage employees across the board and was creative with career development options.

“National Transport realised that with only 200 employees, career options within the company could be limited. As a result they partnered with their shareholders, two of Australia’s largest financial institutions, in order to open up a wealth of opportunities, including secondment placement, outside of their immediate business,” said Hickey.

Coca-Cola Amatil human resources director Kate Mason-Dryden was one of the judges and said the standard of survey entries was high.

“We had to look at other criteria to see what pushed these companies ahead of the rest. Things like customer experience, and ensuring everyone is aligned with the vision. Learning and development, communication and a sense of accomplishment were all important. Providing career opportunities was another key differentiator.”
