Are you missing out on good talent by culling the resumes of those who have been unemployed for more than a few months?

Add mature age workers to the long-term unemployed and the problem is compounded. Many valuable people in their 50s and 60s are being overlooked for employment in Australia. Is one of the key issues driving this, 20 and 30 yr olds involved in the 'culling' process? Are younger people given the responsibility to decide which applicants they will interview? I don't know what the answer is, but I do know that the long-term unemployed and mature age people are NOT being treated equally.
