The government’s finance minister has been slammed by Labor for “callous and clueless” comments

I'm not sure why either side of the government is pushing this as some sort of solution to the high rate of domestic violence in Australia. This "initiative" smacks of tokenism at best; but really seems to be trying to shift the responsibility for the outcomes of an entrenched social problem to the corporate sector, instead of providing significant government funding to address the causes. Rather than discussing solutions, politicians are simply shifting the conversation to make it about employee "benefits". Providing Leave almost normalises this vile behaviour. If we believe additional Leave is required for victims of violence, why would we limit this Leave to only one type of violence?
