An employer was not held liable after a casino worker allegedly fell asleep at the wheel following an overnight shift.

"accident happened because she fell asleep while driving because it had not warned her about, or mitigated, the effects of sleep debt and the circadian cycle on night shift workers"

This always makes me angry. Employers are not your parents. Employees are still individuals and adults - look after yourself. You can logically guess that you may be sleepy if your shift ends at 4am so either you adjust your own sleep schedule or you get alternate transportation (taxi, colleague, etc).

In terms of rostering, especially at casino where this schedule would likely be more common then they should ensure they are allowing enough time between shifts for proper rest.
