Can you make sick employees attend disciplinary meetings over the phone?

Requesting an employee on sick leave to attend a disciplinary meeting is appropriate sometimes, but HR should be wary.

    I can think of no reason why a disciplinary meeting cannot wait until the employee is well enough to be at work.
    Surely in the name of fairness we would want someone subject to any sort of disciplinary matter to be well enough, i.e. not sick, to deal with it.
    The bottom line though is that where an employee is off sick and the doctor supports that then they are not fit to engage in anything to do with work, including a disciplinary matter which is work related.
    Let common sense and fairness prevail please.
