The permanent Skilled Migration program has experienced considerable upheaval over the past 12 months. Following cuts to the skilled migration intake in 2009, migrants applying under the points tested General Skilled Migration category continue to face extensive processing times and fears that further occupations will be removed from the program. This latest review is a continuation of the Minister for Immigration’s commitment to shift the GSM program from a ‘supply’ to a ‘demand’ driven system and push applicants to pursue employer sponsored pathways.
