The world’s best employers revealed

Google parent company Alphabet has been recognised by Forbes as the “World’s Best Employer” for a second year in a row. The company received high marks from its employees, including a perfect score on diversity, one of the criteria for selecting honourees.

Microsoft, which placed second once again, and Apple rounded out the top three spots on the list of 2,000 companies. Other companies in the top 10 included Walt Disney, Amazon, CNOOC, Daimler AG, Kasikornbank, Celgene, and BMW Group.

US companies also held the banner as the year’s best-of-the-best, with six American companies dominating the top 10 and a total of 185 landing in the top 500.

Germany was the second most represented in the top 10 with car companies Daimler AG and BMW Group.

Out of all the entries, only 80 companies were from China and Hong Kong.

Forbes’ annual list ranks companies based on their approval ratings from employees in the areas of diversity, workplace conditions, and corporate image, among other criteria.

This year, the company asked 430,000 respondents to evaluate their employer; whether they would recommend their employer to family or friends; and to cite other companies they admired.

The Best Employers recognition was based on Forbes’ Global 2000 list, which includes the world’s largest publicly traded companies.
